Instructor Means Reporting

The Instructor Means Report allows CES and Node Administrators to view aggregated mean scores for courses and instructors based on selected questions. This report can be run for one project or across multiple projects.

Important Considerations:

  • Data for the Instructor Means Report is generated after the project has ended or the survey access end date has passed. After the end date has passed, Course Evaluation & Surveys (CES) begins to build the data for the report at Midnight Central Time and will then be made available once it has been built. For this reason, we recommend waiting one day after the end date has passed before running the report in order to allow the system to build the data for the report overnight.
  • Instructor Means Reporting will only calculate Likert scale-type questions on the project's Main Survey. Questions on Targeted and Custom Question Surveys are not available in Instructor Means Reporting.

Note: We have updated the user interface since the creation of the video. However, the information in the video remains relevant, and this article provides more information about the feature.

Accessing Instructor Means Reporting

  1. Click on the Results tab.
  2. Select Instructor Means Reporting.
  3. Choose the project(s) from the Project drop-down menu field. Projects will appear in the list based on the project end date, with more recent projects appearing at the top.
  4. Filter by Hierarchy Level, Instructor, or Course.
  5. Select Survey Questions you want to include and keep in mind the following:
    • Hover over the checkbox next to a question to its full text.
    • Ensure that selected questions share the same weighting scale. The weighting scale can be reviewed by referring to the Survey.
    • Questions with the same verbiage may appear when they were included in more than one survey but they are not linked survey questions therefore although they share the same verbiage they are their own separate individual questions.
  6. Select to Group Results by:
    • Course: Display data for each course section within the project(s).
    • Instructor: Display data for each instructor within the project(s) aggregating course data for instructors who taught multiple course sections.
    • Instructor / Project: Display data for each instructor within the project(s) while separating results by project and aggregating course data for instructors who taught multiple course sections within each project.
    • Hierarchy Level: Display aggregated data for the account hierarchy level.
  7. Choose to Aggregate Questions or Show Questions Individually on the Group By Question field.
    • If you select to "Show Questions Individually," an Excel file will be generated (see sample below).

The exported Excel sheet showing columns for Instructor, Course, CourseUniqueId, Respondents, Enrollments, Response Rate, and average scores for multiple questions.

  8. The Where field allows you to set a threshold where Respondents/Average is greater than, equal to or less than a specified number (e.g. Respondents Greater Than or Equal to 5).
  9. Add Benchmark field permits you to include a benchmark from a level in your hierarchy.

Note: Only available when one (1) project is selected.

  10. Once you are ready to run the report, click the Search button and items that match your search criteria will display within the Results table the search criteria - unless Show Questions Individually is selected, which generates an Excel file.
