Module Settings

Before you begin

  • You need the Admin or Root-Level Admin role, and your institution must have Placement Management enabled.
  • Users with the Faculty role, including Faculty with node admin access, don’t see Module Settings.
  • Your labels apply to your entire institution, so everyone at your institution sees the same terms.

Customize your labels

  1. From the side menu, select Settings.
  2. Select Module Settings.

The Settings page with three cards: Configuration Settings, Communications Management, and Module Settings. The Module Settings card is highlighted.

  1. In the Mentor dropdown, select Write my own. The dropdown has two options, the default label and Write my own, and a checkmark shows the current selection. The Singular and Plural fields appear.
  2. In the Singular field, enter the singular form of your label, such as Cooperating Teacher.
  3. In the Plural field, enter the plural form, such as Cooperating Teachers. The counter in each field shows how many of the 50 available characters you have used.
  4. To rename the Supervisor role, repeat steps 4 to 6 using the Supervisor dropdown. You can change one role without changing the other.

The Mentor Terminology card with Write my own selected for both roles. Mentor is set to Cooperating Teacher (singular) and Cooperating Teachers (plural). Supervisor is set to Coordinator (singular) and Coordinators (plural). Character counters show 19/50, 20/50, 11/50, and 12/50.

  1. Select SAVE. The message “Placement settings saved.” confirms your changes. The message closes after 4 seconds, or you can select the X to close it.

Leave the page without saving

If you select CANCEL or try to leave the page with unsaved changes, a message asks: “Do you want to discard all unsaved changes?”

  • Select Discard to leave the page without saving your changes.
  • Select Cancel, the X, or press Esc to return to the page with your changes still in place.

If you haven’t made any changes, the message doesn’t appear.

Restore the default labels

  1. Go to Settings > Module Settings, and then select the Placement Management tab.
  2. In the Mentor or Supervisor dropdown, select the default option (Mentor or Supervisor). The Singular and Plural fields for that role disappear.
  3. Select SAVE.

Troubleshooting

“Please provide your own terminology.” appears under a field

This message appears when you select Write my own and leave the Singular or Plural field empty. Both fields are required. Enter a label in each field, or select the default option from the dropdown to keep the original name.

Frequently asked questions

Where do my custom labels appear?

Your labels replace “Mentor” and “Supervisor” throughout Student Learning & Licensure, including Placement Management screens, emails, notifications, reports, exports, and other areas that refer to these roles.

Do my changes update emails already sent or files already downloaded?

No. Label changes apply going forward. Emails already sent and files already downloaded keep the labels that were in place at the time.

Do my labels affect other programs at my institution?

Yes.  If multiple programs are using the same instance of Student Learning & Licensure then the change will be effective for all users across programs.
