When creating, updating, disabling, or deleting fewer than ten user accounts, we recommend doing so manually. When more than ten user accounts must be modified, a work request can be used. The work request must include a CSV file containing the information needed to modify the user accounts, and a guide on how to create and format your CSV file can be found in this article.
When your CSV file is ready, use the steps outlined in the following section to submit your work request.
Getting Started
Follow the steps outlined below for type of the action you want to be taken for the users in your file.
Creating New User Accounts:
To create new user accounts, a User Creation work request must be submitted, and the following information can be entered in the work request.
-
- Step 1: Provide a title to your work request that you would like to create new user accounts.
- Step 2: Include a description of that you would like new user accounts created for the users in your file.
- Step 3: Upload your CSV file here to include it in the work request. Ensure your file contains the core user information (first, middle and last names, username, email address) and all applicable administrative data (e.g., college, department, and the academic year for which this data is current) as highlighted in this article.
Updating User Accounts
To update user accounts, a User Creation work request must be submitted, and the following information can be entered in the work request.
-
- Step 1: Provide a title to your work request that you would like to update user accounts.
- Step 2: Include a description that you would like to update the user accounts in your file with the changes outlined in your file (e.g., "we need to update our users' Banner ID in Faculty Success, please use the attached file to do that").
- Step 3: Upload your CSV file here to include it in the work request. Ensure your file follows the recommendations highlighted in this article and contains an unchanging user identifier (typically, the username) and whichever attribute you'd like to update (e.g. the name fields, a secondary user identifier, etc.)
Note: If you need to update your users' Faculty Success usernames in bulk, you'll need to provide a column in the CSV for a user identifier that won't be changing (typically, the internal DM User ID).
Disabling User Accounts
Disabling user accounts prevents the user from logging into your Faculty Success instance while allowing you to keep their data for historical reporting. To disable user accounts, a General work request must be submitted, and the following information can be entered in the work request.
-
- Step 1: Provide a title to your work request that you would like to disable user accounts.
- Step 2: Include a description that you would like to disable the user accounts in your file.
- Step 3: Upload your CSV file here to include it in the work request. Ensure that your CSV file contains only the users you want to disable, along with containing a column with their username (or other user identifier).
Deleting User Accounts
When deleting user accounts it is important to keep in mind that this action cannot be undone and will result in data loss for all data associated with the user accounts you are deleting. To avoid data loss, it's best to disable the users accounts rather than deleting them, because disabling an account only prevents the user from accessing your Faculty Success instance but keeps their data for historical reporting.
To proceed with deleting the user accounts in your file, a General work request must be submitted, and you can enter the following in the work request.
-
- Step 1: Provide a title to your work request that you would like to delete user accounts.
- Step 2: Include a description that you would like to delete the user accounts in your file.
- Step 3: Upload your CSV file here to include it in the work request. Ensure that your CSV file contains only the users you want to delete, along with containing a column with their username (or other user identifier).
