Overview
This article outlines how to create internal links within self-study narratives. It details the step-by-step process for embedding direct links to other sections or standards using the editing tool.
When composing self-study narratives, references to other sections or standards are common. Direct links can be embedded within the narrative using the editor function. This ensures that anyone viewing an exported self-study (as a PDF, Word document, or website) can quickly find relevant material.
How to Insert Internal Links
The linking option is available directly within the self-study narrative editor.
- Access the Linking Side Panel:
On the self-study narrative page, click the linking icon button.
A side panel will appear, displaying all available sections and standards for the self-study.
- Locate the Section or Standard to Link:
- Browse: Scroll through the list of sections and standards in the side panel.
Search: If many sections exist, use the search functionality at the top of the side panel. Type a keyword, and all associated parts and standards will appear in the results.
- Expand/Collapse: Standards under a given part can be expanded or collapsed to better organize the view.
- Insert the Link:
- Direct Insertion: Click the linking button next to the desired standard or section in the side panel. {Insert a screenshot here of the linking button next to a standard/section in the side panel.}
- Embed in Text: Alternatively, highlight the text in the narrative where the link is to be embedded. Then, click the linking button next to the standard or section in the side panel.
Important Notes on Linking:
- External Links: The editor still supports inserting external links. This functionality is specifically for internal links within the self-study.
- Linking Restrictions: Linking is only possible to other sections or standards within the self-study. A standard cannot be linked to itself.
- Currently, linking from one standard to another is only available for self-study administrators since that role has access to all standards.
