Overview
The Assessment Performance Report shows how students perform on your rubrics and how that performance aligns to your standards, all in one place. You can filter results, compare groups, drill down to individual students, and export or share what you find.
This article is for administrators and instructors who review assessment results for accreditation, program review, or continuous improvement.
Why Use This Report
- One report instead of several. Rubric results and standards alignment appear together, so you no longer need to run separate reports and combine CSV files in a spreadsheet. Comparison values can be selected without having to build new queries.
- Accreditation-ready evidence. Full standard names and Met % rates appear next to the rubric elements they map to, making it easy to show how students meet each standard.
- Answers to "who" and "why." Compare results across terms, courses, sections, activities, assessors, and student groups, then drill down to see exactly which students are performing at each level.
- Less repeat work. Save a report and its filters once, reopen it each term, and share it with colleagues who need the same view.
Before You Begin
- Gain access to "Reports." Administrators see data for the parts of the organization they administer; instructors see data for the course sections they teach.
- Note that the report includes only completed assessments. Rubrics, standard sets, and filter values appear only when there is at least one completed assessment you have access to.
- Verify rubric definitions. Met % for a standard is available only when your rubric defines which performance levels count as "met" for that standard. If you are not sure, check with your program administrator.
Create and Run a Report
Go to the "Reports" area, select "Create New Report," then select "Assessment Performance Report."
Choose how to start: select by "Rubrics" or by "Standard Sets."
Optional: Apply filters such as Term, Course, Section, Template, or Activity to narrow the list of rubrics and standard sets. Only values with completed assessments appear.
- Use the search box to find rubrics or standard sets by name, then select one or more.
- Select "Run Report." A loading indicator appears while the report is prepared. If you select "Run Report" without choosing anything, you see the message "Please select at least 1 rubric or standard set."

Rubric Results
Rubrics are grouped into their own sections. Each rubric starts with overall results, followed by each element in the order it appears on the rubric.
| Metric | What It Tells You |
|---|---|
| Total Assessments | The number of completed assessments included in the result. This includes N/A selections. |
| Mean | The average score. Assessments scored as N/A are not included in the mean calculation. |
| Standard Deviation | Identifies variances in student scores. Assessments scored as NA are not included in the calculation. |
| Score Range | The lowest to highest score earned on the element, for example 2-4 (if no students earned a score of 1). |
| Performance Level Distribution | The percentage and number of assessments at each performance level. |
Select "View Rubric" to open a preview of the rubric in a new tab, including its standard mappings and which levels count as met.
Standards Alignment
Turn on "Show Element Mapping" to see the standards mapped to each rubric element. Each standard appears with its identifier and full title, for example "InTASC 4 - Content Knowledge," along with:
- Met %: The percentage of assessments where a performance level designated as "met" was selected.
- Met threshold: The scores that count as meeting the standard.
Use the standard set drop-downs to choose which standards to include. All standards aligned with rubrics on the report are selected by default.
Rubrics First and Standards First Views
Use "Result Output" to switch between views.
- Rubrics First organizes results by rubric and element.
- Standards First organizes results by standard, showing each standard's overall met and not met results, the mean and standard deviation for each mapped rubric, and a breakdown for each mapped rubric element. In Standards First, you can also show or hide the performance level distribution.
Note: Irrespective of whether the report has been generated based on a selection of rubrics or based on a selection of standard sets, you can switch between the Rubrics First and Standards First views on the report output page.
Narrow Results with Filters
- On the results page, select "Add Filters."
- Choose a filter field, then search for and select one or more values.
- Use the "Select" button for that filter, for example "Select Term," to apply it. Select "Back to Filters" to choose a different field.
- Repeat to add more filters. All charts update to reflect your selections.
Available filters:
| Category | Filters |
|---|---|
| Academic | Term, Course, Section, Activity, Template |
| Student | Student Name, Class, Primary Major, Primary Major Concentration, Additional Major, Additional Major Concentration, Minor, Major (The Major filter is only available for Classic SLL institutions i.e. SLL institutions that are not using the System Admin integration) |
| Assessor | Assessor Name, Assessor Role (Instructor, Mentor, Supervisor, Additional Assessor, Peer Reviewer) |
| Course delivery | Location, Delivery Method (These filters are only available for SLL institutions that are using the System Admin integration) |
Each filter lists only values found in the current report (i.e. values that are relevant to the assessment data for the rubrics or standard sets for which the report has been generated). To remove every filter at once, select "Clear All."
Save a Filter Combination
After you save the report, you can save the filters shown under "Active Filters" for reuse. Give each saved filter a unique title. To reuse one later, select "Apply Saved Filter" or open the "Saved Filters" tab. If the report has not been saved yet, you see "Please save the assessment performance report to be able to save applied filters."
Compare Results
In "Compare Results By," select a comparison option.
- Review the results. Each value, such as each term or each course, appears in its own row with Assessment Count, Students Assessed, Mean, Standard Deviation, and Performance Level Distribution for every rubric element.
- To stop comparing, select "Select an Option" in the dropdown.
Comparison options: Term, Course, Section, Activity, Activity Template, Class, Assessor Name, Assessor Role, and, where available, Major (The Major option is only available for Classic SLL institutions i.e. SLL institutions that are not using the System Admin integration), Location, and Delivery Method (Location and Delivery Method options are only available for SLL institutions that are using the System Admin integration). You can compare by one option at a time, and your filters still apply.
Drill Down to Students
- Select any segment of a performance level or met and not met chart.
- Select "View Students."
- Review the list of students behind that result. Sort by Student Name, Assessment Date, or Score.
- Close the panel to return to the report.
The list shows student name and email, section, activity, assessment date, assessor name and email, performance level, and score. Standard drill-downs also show the rubric element. In comparison view, the drill-down shows which comparison value you selected.
Export to CSV
- Full report: Select "Export to CSV." You receive a ZIP file containing the CSV data and a text file listing the filters you applied. Large reports are split across multiple CSV files in the same ZIP. The CSV contains one row per assessment, element, and standard, with student, course, activity, assessor, rubric, standard, and score details.
- Drill-down list: Export any drill-down list to CSV from the drill-down panel. Comparison drill-downs include the comparison option and value.
Save, Rename, and Share a Report
- Select "Save" and enter a report title. Titles must be unique among your reports.
- After saving, you see "Your changes have been saved. View saved report."
- To rename a report, edit its title at any time.
- When you change a saved report, choose whether to save over the existing report or save it as a new report.
- To share a saved report, use the share option in your reports list. Colleagues see only the data they already have permission to view.
If you try to leave with unsaved changes, you are asked whether to save, leave without saving, or stay on the report. To find saved reports later, go to "Academics & Offices" > "Reports" and filter by "Assessment Performance Report."
Troubleshooting
| What You See | What It Means and What to Do |
|---|---|
| "There are no rubrics to display." | You have no rubrics with completed assessments, or your pre-filters exclude them. Remove or change filters, or confirm assessments have been completed. |
| "There are no standard sets to display." | No standard sets are mapped to rubrics with completed assessments that you can access. |
| "There is no data to display for this standard as the met/not met criteria have not been defined." | The rubric does not define which levels count as met for this standard. Ask your administrator to update the rubric mapping. |
| "This title is already used. Please enter a unique report title." | Choose a different title for your report. |
| "Report title is required." | Enter a title before saving. |
| Counts differ from what you expected | Only completed, submitted assessments count, and each submission counts once. NA scores count toward totals but not toward mean or standard deviation. |
