Custom Questions for CES Administrators

This article covers how to configure and manage the Custom Questions feature in Course Evaluations & Surveys for your project. As a CES Administrator, you will learn how to enable the feature, managing access for instructors and Node Administrators, and determine when reporting for custom questions is available.

Enabling Custom Questions

Follow these steps to enable the custom questions feature for a project:

1. Navigate to "Surveys & Projects" from the Navigation Bar.
2. Select "Projects."
3. Search and open the project you would like to enable the feature for.
4. Once on the project, go to its "Properties" tab.
5. Expand the "Custom Questions" box by clicking on the facing-down arrow.
6. After expanding the "Custom Questions" box, you will be able to enable the feature for Node Administrators and Instructors by checking the checkbox by their role.

Managing Access to Adding Custom Questions

After enabling the custom questions feature for your project, you can manage the date range that Node Administrators and Instructors can add custom questions within. Additionally, you can limit the number of questions they can add, allow them to preview the student's view of the survey and auto-add by default Learning Outcome questions to survey if not added by the instructor. These functions allow you to manage the type of access Node Administrators and Instructors have to the custom questions feature.

Although you are able to modify the end date that custom questions can be added by, it is highly recommended to have the End Date not surpass the Survey Start date.

After enabling the custom questions feature, you will be able to configure the following functions:

1. Access Start and End Date: You can set a particular date range of when the Node Administrator and Instructor will be able to add custom questions within. The time cannot be adjusted, only the date.
2. Access Start and End Date: Alternatively, you can allow custom questions to be added for a "x" number of days before the survey start date.
3. Max Number of Questions: You can set up a limit up until 30 of the number of custom questions that can be added or you can not set a limit by selecting "Unlimited." You will then be able to select the type of questions that can be added by selecting one of the below options:
   • Create Their Own & Item Banks:
   • Create Their Own Only:
   • Item Bank Only:
   • Learning Outcomes Item Bank Only:
