This article provides an overview of the experience students have when using Course Evaluations & Surveys (CES) to complete their course evaluations.
The following is a video overview:
Note: We have updated the user interface since the creation of the video. However, the information in the video remains relevant, and this article provides more information about the feature. |
Accessing Course Evaluations & Surveys
Students can access CES through several methods:
- Learning Management System (LMS): If your institution has integrated CES with your LMS, students can access their surveys directly from within the LMS. For more information on the types of LMS integrations available, see LMS and SSO Integrations.
- Portal: Students may also access CES through a portal integration.
- Email invitation: Students may receive an email with a "Go to Survey" link. This link, that can be included in an email set up from the project's "Communication" tab, takes the student directly to their survey. To learn more about configuring communications and using placeholders, visit Setup Email Communications.
- Direct Login Link: Students can receive a user-specific login link via email that will take them to their student dashboard in CES. This login link will be unique to each student and can be included in the email communications you configure from your project or when manually editing their CES account to send them an email with the "Passwordless Login URL" placeholder. The login link will take the student directly to their student dashboard in CES. To learn more about how to edit a user's CES account, please refer to: Manually Edit User Information.
These methods allows students to access either to their survey directly or their student dashboard in CES to access their surveys.
CES Student Dashboard
When a student accesses CES using a user-specific login link, they are directed to their CES student dashboard. Here's what they will see:
- My Surveys: If a survey is available, the student will see a list of courses they need evaluate. They can click on the course title to begin the survey.
- My Account: By clicking on "My Account" in the navigation bar, the student can log out of the CES.
Completing the Survey
Once a student accesses their survey, they will see the following
- Title of the survey
- Course name: The course that they are evaluating.
- Instructor Name: The name of the instructor they are evaluating.
If Team-Taught courses is enabled for your project, then the student will be prompted to evaluate each instructor.
Confirmation of Survey Submission
Once the student successfully submits their survey, the student is directed back to their LMS or Student dashboard in CES depending on how they accessed the survey from the methods outlined previously. The following changes will then be visible:
- The student will no longer receive a notification via their LMS about the survey, unless they still have a pending survey for another course. Survey notifications will stop appearing to a student via the LMS once all surveys have been completed.
- The survey link for that course survey will now be inactive for the survey they completed.
- From My Surveys in the student dashboard, the date and time stamp of when the survey was completed will appear for the course, indicating when the student completed the survey.
