The Learning Outcomes feature allows you to easily and consistently attribute Learning Outcomes to course evaluation surveys by utilizing the Custom Questions functionality for instructors. By applying a Learning Outcomes tag to questions in the Question Properties of your survey setup, instructors will have an effective way to apply learning outcomes questions to their courses.
In turn, CES Administrators, "node" Administrators, and Instructors will be able to track and report on learning outcome results in course evaluations.
NOTE
- Learning Outcomes questions can be added when using the Custom Questions feature enabled for instructors.
- Learning Outcomes survey questions cannot be added to other survey types as linked questions.
Adding Learning Outcomes Questions Directly
Instructors have the ability to add Learning Outcomes questions to Custom Questions surveys. Custom Questions surveys add supplemental questions to the course in addition to the project's Main Survey questions.
Instructors can write custom, course-specific Learning Outcomes questions in a Custom Questions survey by tagging the question as a Learning Outcomes Question.
Within the project's Custom Questions access dates, Instructors will follow these steps:
- Click on the Custom Question Surveys tab.
- Select + Create New Custom Question Survey or edit an existing Custom Question Survey.
- From the Select Question Type drop-down menu, select the desired question type + Add.
- Compose your Question Text and Response Options.
- Enable the Learning Outcomes Question option and any other desired Question Properties.
- Click Save.

Adding customizable text to Learning Outcomes Questions
CES Admins can include a Custom Placeholder if they would like for the Instructors to customize the text in a Learning Outcome question from an Itembank. This will allow Instructors to choose the same Itembank question that can then be personalized for their course.
Click the Placeholders option in the text formatting bar and then click Custom Placeholder
This will add an ENTER CUSTOM TEXT HERE placeholder in the body of the message. This message can be altered so long as you do not alter the coding before or after the custom text. For example, you may wish to change ENTER CUSTOM TEXT HERE to more specific directions such as ENTER YOUR LEARNING OUTCOME GOAL HERE.
When the Instructor chooses this question to add to a Custom Question survey they are creating, they will have the ability to edit the custom question text to fit their course or learning goal.
For Instructors:
Once the CES Administrator has created the Itembank with Learning Outcome questions, Instructors can then select those pre-composed questions from a Learning Outcomes Item Bank.
Within the project's Custom Questions access dates, Instructors will follow these steps:
