LTI 1.1 Blackboard Setup (Placement)

Registering a Provider Domain

System Administrators configure LTI Tool Providers by selecting Building Blocks from the System Admin tab. From the Building Blocks page select LTI Tool Providers. This only needs to be completed once.
 

  1. Login as an administrator.
  2. Click the System Admin link located in the top right corner.
  3. Click the Building Blocks link within the Building Blocks area on the right middle.
  4. Click LTI Tool Providers.
  5. Click Register Provider Domain.

  6. Enter in the following fields:
    1. Provider Domain: This is the server URL
    2. Key
    3. Secret
    4. Provider Domain Status: Select Approved.
    5. Default Configuration: Select Set Globally
      Note: If your institution is planning on using the General Account Integration, you will need to set the Default Configuration to ‘Globally’.  However, you will work with your PC to change the Key and Secret so that these fields are the same for the Coursework and General Account Integration. Doing so will allow you to copy the links to future terms within your LMS.
    6. Send User Data: Select Send user data over any connection.
    7. User Fields to Send: Select Role in Class, Name, Email Address
    8. Show User Acknowledgement: No
  7. Click Submit.


1a. Manage Placement for Coursework

  1. Edit the contextual menu for the Tk20 Tool and select Manage Placement.
  2. Click Create Placement.

  3. Enter a Label to indicate Tk20 Coursework. (this Placement  will be specifically for Coursework).
  4. Type a Handle.
  5. Select Content Type – Build Content (Create). This selection determines which menu in the course the tool appears.

  6. Check Placement allows grading to add the grading features.
  7. Paste the Launch URL that is found on your Tk20 server under Administration LTI Tool Provider Setup
  8. Click Submit.


1b. Creating Placements to Coursework

  1. After logging into Blackboard, select the class for which you want to create a web link to a Tk20 assignment  in My Courses.

  2. Select Content from the left menu.

  3. Under Build Content, select CreateTk20 Coursework.

  4. Indicate the name of the assignment for this web link.
    IMPORTANT NOTE: The name of the Web Link should match identically the name of the assignment sent out in Tk20. [The assignment name will be provided to you by the Tk20 Unit Administrator or it can be found in the Assessment Matrix if available].
  5. Check “Yes” for Enable Evaluation; additional options are presented:
    1. Enter a value for ‘Points Possible.’
  6. Click Submit.

Note: The previous process needs to be repeated for every assignment you want to create a web link for.

1c. Creating a web link for the Home Page in Tk20 (General Account Integration)

  1. Edit the contextual menu for the Tk20 Tool and select Manage Placement.
  2. Click Create Placement.
  3. Enter a Label to indicate Tk20 Home Page (this Placement will be specifically for General Account Integration).
  4. Type a Handle.
  5. Select Content Type – Build Content (Create). This selection determines which menu in the course the tool appears.
  6. Un-check Placement allows grading. This integration does not support the grade return because it is not an assignment.
  7. Tool Provider Information
    1. Enter the Launch URL
    2. Key
    3. Secret
    4. Custom ParametersBlackboard does not automatically send username. If you want to create a user match on this parameter,  you can enter the following: username=@X@user.id@X@.
  8. Click Submit.

 Note: In order to establish a successful ‘General Account Integration’, the link needs to be set to open as a separate window.
