The Dashboard Tab

After selecting Placement Management from the Waffle dropdown menu, the Placement Management tool will open in a new browser tab and the Dashboard will be displayed.
The Dashboard shows all student members of a selected internship. An internship is selected by clicking the View dropdown and clicking the desired internship.
The Dashboard also shows the status of each student, including placement completion status, survey status, and the aligned site, mentor, and/or supervisor.
Student Surveys
A survey may be sent to students within the selected section. To send the survey, click the checkbox next to the name of the students to whom you wish to send the survey, then click the Send Survey button. Surveys will be sent to the email address that is associated with students’ Via accounts.
TIP: To preview to survey contents, click Send Survey for a student. The survey will display and allow you to scroll through the survey pages. The survey will not send until you click the Send button in the upper right corner.
Creating Placements
Creating a placement typically involves assigning a site, mentor, and supervisor to a student. In the Placement Management tool, assignment begins with site.
Assigning Site
To assign a site to a student, click the Assign button in the sites column that corresponds to the student. The site assignment page will display. The site assignment page shows all sites that you have added to your list of Partner Sites. On the left side are filters for District and Grade Levels, allowing you to sort through your Partner Sites.
To select a site for the student, click the radio button next to the site name. Then click the Next button to continue on to the mentor selection or click the Save & Close button to return to the Dashboard.
If the student to whom you are assigning a site has completed a survey, their District and Grade Level preferences will be displayed on the left side panel.
Assigning a Mentor
To assign a mentor to a student, click the Assign button in the Mentor column that corresponds to the student. The mentor assignment page will display. The mentor assignment page shows a list of all Via users designated as “external.” You can re-sort the mentors list using the Sort by dropdown, and you can also search for a specific mentor using the Search box.
To select a mentor for the student, click the check box next to the mentor’s name. Then, click the Next button to continue on to the supervisor selection or click the Save & Close button to return to the Dashboard.
NOTE: More than one mentor may be assigned to a single student. To do so, simply select each mentor from the list before proceeding.
Adding a New Mentor
If the mentor to be assigned is not in the list, you can create them by clicking the Add New Mentor button at the bottom of the page.
To create a new mentor, you will be required to provide the mentor’s first and last name and their email address. Additional optional fields include Grades, Content Area, Associated Sites, and Notes. When finished, click the Save button, and the mentor will be added to your mentors list.
IMPORTANT: It is very important to input a mentor’s email address correctly. Just as with all Via accounts, email address is used to login and to retrieve a forgotten password.
Assigning a Supervisor
To assign a supervisor to a student, click the Assign button in the supervisor column that corresponds to the student. The supervisor assignment page will display. The supervisor assignment page shows a list of SL&L users added to the internship as Supervisors.
To select a supervisor for the student, click the check box next to the supervisor’s name. Then, click the Save & Close button to return to the Dashboard.
NOTE: If the student’s supervisor is not in the list of supervisors for the internship, contact your administrator to have the supervisor added.
Editing Placements
Placement assignments can be edited at any time. To do so, select the appropriate internship on the Dashboard, then click the Pencil icon next to the field you wish to change.
