Mentor/Supervisor Time Log Visibility
Previously, mentors and supervisors could view the time logs of students assigned to other mentors or supervisors. This issue primarily affected students with multiple placements. After the fix, mentors and supervisors will now only have access to the time logs of their own assigned students, ensuring that only relevant data is visible to each mentor or supervisor.
Display State and District name on Placement Show Page with Site name
With this release, the district and state associated with an assigned site will be visible when viewing a student's placement details for New Placement Management.
Additional Custom Parameter for User Authentication from Canvas
With this release, SL&L client institutions having an LTI integration with Canvas, will have the ability to authenticate users based on the SIS ID value in Canvas in addition to the existing authentication based on email.
The SIS ID value of the user in Canvas will be matched against the user’s User ID in SL&L
Additional Information Regarding the Workflow:
For clients to be able to use the ability to authenticate users accessing SL&L from Canvas based on the SIS ID value in Canvas, they would need to include the following custom parameter in the LTI 1.3 administrative set up for SL&L in Canvas:
- sis_id=$Person.sourcedId
The mentioned custom parameter value can be added by the Canvas administrator from Developer Keys > Locate the set up for SL&L and click the edit icon > Expand the Additional Settings section > Custom Fields box.
HOW DOES THIS WORK:
Once the custom parameter value has been included in the LTI set up for SL&L in the client’s Canvas instance:
- The launch request received by SL&L from Canvas when a user attempts to access SL&L from Canvas will include the mentioned custom parameter with the SIS ID value added for the user in Canvas.
- SL&L will first try to authenticate the user based on email (i.e. by matching the email received from Canvas with the user’s email in SL&L).
- If there is no match based on email, SL&L will try to authenticate the user based on SIS ID (i.e. by matching the value received for the custom parameter sis_id with the user’s User ID in SL&L).
- If there is a match based on SIS ID, the user will be successfully authenticated and directed to the relevant SL&L page.
Additional Parameter for User Authentication from D2L
With this release, SL&L client institutions having an LTI integration with D2L, will have the ability to authenticate users based on the Org Defined ID value in D2L (please refer screen-shot) in addition to the existing authentication based on email.
The Org Defined ID value of the user in D2L will be matched against the user’s User ID in SL&L
Additional Information Regarding the Workflow:
For clients to be able to use the ability to authenticate users accessing SL&L from D2L based on the Org Defined ID value in D2L, NO ADDITIONAL UPDATES would be required to the LTI 1.3 administrative set up for SL&L in D2L.
However, to be able to use this ability, clients would need to ensure that the Org Defined ID in D2L for the relevant users matches the user’s User ID in SL&L.
HOW DOES THIS WORK:
When a user attempts to access SL&L from D2L:
- The launch request received by SL&L from D2L includes the Org Defined ID parameter with the Org Defined ID value added for the user in D2L.
- SL&L will first try to authenticate the user based on the Org Defined ID (i.e. by matching the Org Defined ID value received from D2L with the user’s User ID value in SL&L).
- If there is a match based on Org Defined ID, the user will be successfully authenticated and directed to the relevant SL&L page.
- If there is no match based on the Org Defined ID, SL&L will try to authenticate the user based on email (i.e. by matching the email received from Canvas with the user’s email in SL&L).
