How to Get Started with Career Pathways

Career Pathways is designed to support and guide faculty through their professional development. For administrators, setting up and managing these pathways is essential for helping faculty members advance in their careers. To get started with Career Pathways, administrators should familiarize themselves with the following components: 

Key Career Pathways Milestones 

Career pathways are structured by milestones that are compromised of Base and Result & Exception events. 

  • Creating Base Events for Career Pathways: Base Events are fundamental building blocks of a career path. They represent core milestones that are essential to the faculty's development within their specific career track. 
  • Creating Result & Exception Events in Career Pathways: These events capture milestones achieved or exceptions that may occur during the faculty's career journey. Exception events are used to highlight deviations or special circumstances, while result events mark completion and the outcome of key milestones. 

Adding Base Events in Career Pathways 

Modifying Events 

  • Modifying Events: Occasionally, events will need to be modified to reflect changes to institutional milestones.

Assigning a Career Path 

  • Assigning a Career Path using Manage Faculty: To begin using Career Pathways with your faculty members, administrators must assign career paths to faculty. This article covers the process of assigning the appropriate career paths to faculty based on their professional developmental goals. 

Monitoring Career Paths

  • Monitoring Career Paths for Faculty: It's essential to monitor the progress of faculty as they navigate their career pathways. Administrators can monitor faculties progress and add Result & Exception events.

Granting Access to Career Pathways

Faculty Career Pathways is available by default to the top-level administrator security role, this role is typically University Administrator or College Administrator. This is a security permission that may be added to any role group with a scope of unrestricted. Unit level access, such as College, School, or Department will come in a future release.

Access to Career Pathways for Faculty is granted upon aligning a user to a career path. Faculty access is not dependent on security role configuration.
