Creating Result & Exception Events in Career Pathways

This article explains how to create result and exception events for career pathways. These events are used to account for outcome and unexpected situations that may affect a faculty member's career path.

What are Result and Exception Events?

  • Exception Event: Exception events are circumstances that can disrupt academic progress. These events, like family leave or sabbatical, are often necessary and beneficial in the long run. While they may cause delays, they don't necessarily hinder personal career timeline. Examples include family leave, sabbatical leave, or time away from the institution.
  • Result Event: Result events are outcomes or actions that follow a base event. These events, such as promotions, tenure decisions, or disciplinary actions, can have a significant impact on career trajectory.

Steps to Set Up a Result or Exception Event

  1. Creating a Result or Exception Event

    • Click the "Create Event" button in the upper-right corner.
    • Select "Result & Exception Event."
  2. Configure Your Event

    • Event type: Choose whether you're creating a result or an exception event.
    • Title: Enter a title for your event to easily identify it.
    • Event Type: Select the appropriate type from the predefined list of event types (e.g., Hired with Credits, Leave, Promotion Event, Tenure Event). If none apply, choose "Other."
    • Description & Rules for Application: Provide a description and any requirements that apply to the event you're creating.
    • Impact to Career Path: Select the checkboxes beside each impact option you want available. This allows you to decide how the event will influence a faculty member's career path it's added to it:
      • No Impact to Subsequent Events: The event will not affect future events.
      • Delays Subsequent Events: The event will delay future events.
      • Advances Subsequent Events: The event will cause future events to occur sooner.
  3. Save Your Event

    • Click "Save" once you're ready to save your event.
