Creating a Career Pathway

This article will walk you through the process of setting up a new career pathway for your faculty. You will learn how to add base events to structure the pathway, ensuring faculty progress effectively through their career milestones.

Before you begin, please note the following:

  • Manage Events: To streamline this process, visit Creating Base Events for Career Pathways to build predefined events that can be used across your career pathways. If needed, use "Other" as your Base Event to create a one-time event. However, "Other" events will always have to be configured manually as it is not a predefined event that was created through Manage Events.
  • Permissions: Only Faculty Accomplishment Administrators can complete the steps in this article.
  • Timeline Flexibility: The default timeline extends up to nine years, but you can add more years by selecting "Show More Years."
  • Save your Progress: Save your work anytime by selecting "Save and Continue Later" in the upper-right corner.
  • Publishing Career Paths: Career paths cannot be unpublished, but can be edited. See Modifying, Archiving and Deleting Pathways to learn more about managing your career path after publishing.

Steps to Set Up A Career Pathway

  1. Access Career Pathways

    • Select "Career Pathways" from the Navigation Bar. If you're aligned to a career path, select "Configuration."
    • Click "Create Career Path" in the Career Paths tab.
  2. Enter the Details of Your Career Path.

    • Title: Enter a title for the career path.
    • Description: Describe the purpose and provide an overview of the career path.
    • Career Type: Choose a career type from the predefined list (e.g., tenure track, adjunct, clinical).
    • Organizations: Select an organization to be associated with this path. The organization list reflects the colleges in your Faculty Success instance and determines which faculty members can be aligned with the path. Your selection can always be modified, if necessary.
    • Click "Next"  after entering the details above to proceed to the next step of the process.
  3. Configure the Career Path Timeline

    • The timeline of your career path can be configured using the following two panels:

    • Panel 1: Tools

This panel contains tools that can streamline the process of creating your timeline.
      • Template: TBD
      • Base Events: Select a predefined base event to add to your timeline. Clicking on a base event places it in the next available timeline slot for the proceeding year.
      • Collapsing the Tools Panel: Use the left-facing arrow to collapse the panel, if needed.
    • Panel 2: Timeline

This panel allows you structure your timeline and build it on events.
      • Adding Base Events: Navigate to the appropriate year in the timeline where the first event should occur. Click "+Add Event" and choose a base event. If no suitable predefined event exists, select "Other" to create a one-time event. For further guidance on how to add events, see Adding Events to a Career Pathway
      • Continue to add events until you have structured your career path as desired. Once your done, proceed to the next step.
  4. Publish or Save the Career Path

    • Publish: When your timeline is complete, select "Publish" to make the career path available to be assigned to faculty.
    • Save: If you're not ready to publish, select "Save and Continue Later" to save your work in progress, which you can access from the "Drafts" section when you're ready to continue.

Testing your Career Path

You can test how a published career path will appear to faculty by previewing it. To preview a path, follow these steps:

  1. Access Career Pathways from the Navigation Bar. If you're aligned to a career path, select "Configuration."
  2. Navigate to the career path you can to preview from the Career Paths tab.
  3. Click the circled icon with three vertical dots to open the action menu for the published career path.
  4. Select "Preview." This will open a new tab where you can view the career path as faculty will see it once they are aligned to it.
