Managing your Career Pathways

Keeping your processes current is essential for maintaining efficiency and accuracy. This article will guide you through the process of editing existing paths, previewing path changes, duplicating paths, and archiving or deleting paths as needed.

Editing a Career Pathway

Changes can be made to the Description and the Timeline. Once completed with any changes click "Save."  Clicking "Save and Continue Later" on the Details page will save your work and close the Career Path.

The Edit career path page showing career path details with fields title set to tenure track, description text box filled, career type set to tenure track, and organizations showing 1 organization selected. Save and continue later and next buttons appear in the top right.

Preview Career Pathway

Administrators can now preview a generated faculty timeline directly from within the Career Path builder. Previously, previewing required saving and exiting the builder.

The preview option is available when the career path has at least one event on the timeline (Draft or Published).

How the Preview Works

  1. Select a hire date to generate the preview.
  2. The system validates the hire date before generating the timeline.
  3. Apply a valid hire date to view the My Career View timeline as it would appear to a faculty member with that hire date.

Note: The preview does not include exception or result events. It displays the following notice: "This is a preview only. Accurate depiction of timeline events is based on hire date selection."

  • Change Preview to enter a new hire date and regenerate the timeline.
  • End Preview Session to close the tab.

Tip: If changes are made in the Career Path builder tab after opening a preview, the preview will prompt for the hire date again when refreshed or when Change Preview is selected.

Scope and Limitations

  • Archived career paths do not include the Preview option.
  • The preview does not reflect exception or result events. It is generated based on the Base Event configuration and the selected hire date only.
  • Effective Dates and Expiration Dates control event visibility on faculty timelines. They do not affect the ability to configure or save the Base Event itself.
  • Updating individual faculty timelines directly is not performed from the Career Path builder. That action must be performed on the faculty timelines themselves.

Duplicating a Career Pathway

You may duplicate a Career Path by selecting the "Duplicate" option. After duplicating you will need to change the title of the Career Path and make any changes necessary.

  • Clicking "Save and Continue Later" will draft your Career Path. If you click "Delete Draft" this will permanently delete the Career Path and cannot be undone.

  • If you need to publish the Career Path, you will click "Publish" on the Build Timeline Tab.
The Career path navigation showing enter details marked complete and build timeline as step 2. Save and continue later, back, and publish buttons appear on the top right.
