Messaging Options Display For Users With No Message Permissions

Reported Issue

In Roles Administration, all Message permissions are disabled, eg. set to No; yet users (that are not assigned any other role) can still see messaging options in the Message dropdown.

The Messages page under Roles, showing a list of questions with permissions set to 'No.'

The Email tab under New Message showing 'All Students On My Caseload' highlighted from the dropdown to select a recipient.

The Email tab under the New Message dialog showing 'Hunter Gonzales' as the recipient, the 'Send to Institutional Email' checkbox selected, dropdowns to select both 'Template' and 'Subject', a large text input field to enter the message, and 'Attach', 'Save', and 'Cancel' buttons.

Resolution

The Messaging Options that display to a user without any Messaging permissions are not listed in Role Administration Message options, and therefore are not configurable.

The reason that basic messaging is allowed by default for all users and cannot be disabled in Role Administration, is that messaging is an important method used to engage with students from within SS&E.
