Static Current URL

Curriculum Strategy has two options for implementing a static URL. This feature is convenient if the institution is embedding links to the catalog from their website, or using an API to pull data from the published catalog to their website. This feature can be implemented to prevent the need to update these embedded links or APIs every year when the URL to the catalog changes to accommodate the new year. In the place of the year/term of the catalog, the word "current" is used and directs the end user to the most current version of the catalog.

Current Redirect Option

The Redirect option includes contacting support for initial set-up and once set-up, is easy to update year after year.

The "Current Redirect" is indicated with a blue arrow template icon in the content tree, usually placed near the top:

To update an existing Current Redirect:

If there is a current redirect implemented within your catalog content tree, you can update it to point to the new catalog(s), remove the previous catalogs, and then publish.

To complete this procedure, first locate the current redirect within the Content Tree.

Click "Edit" and double-click the catalog that is currently in the "Selected" window to remove it.

Next, expand the content tree in the Selector window to select the new catalog from the content tree on the left, double click this new catalog to add to the "Selected" window.

Note: More than one catalog within the same calendar year can be added to the current redirect. For example, both the Undergraduate and Graduate catalogs can be included from the same year, but two different Undergraduate Catalogs from different calendar years cannot be simultaneously accessed via this redirect.

When making this update, you are selecting the catalog item - not the calendar year when adding a new catalog:

Click "OK", save your changes, and publish the redirect. This update is complete and the catalog within the direct is now available at the URL.

Please note: The naming convention must be similar to retain your static links.
For example, the URL should not contain the year in the Catalog Title as this would not stay the same year to year:

Example Catalog title that will not work:

2024-2025-Undergraduate-Catalog

Example Catalog Title that will work - keep the title consistent every year:

Undergraduate-Catalog

When this redirect is in use, a static example of a URL would be:

institutiondomainname.smartcatalogiq.com/current/Undergraduate-Catalog

When navigated to, the above URL will redirect so the year is in the title once the page loads.

Current Calendar Year Option

This option is easy to use whenever desired, and does not require Support assistance to set up.

Note-: If you are using an API to pull content from your published catalog to an external website, this is the option recommended.

To determine if this is already in use by your institution, it would be indicated by the absence of the blue arrow redirect mentioned in Option 1 in the content tree and the calendar item of the current catalog(s) will be labeled as "current" instead:

To update to a new year catalog, follow the below steps:

First, rename the currently titled calendar year, "Current", to the year that it needs to be (this is usually the previous year).  Please note, that you must update both the Rename and the Display Name. Both these fields are available via buttons in the Home tab.

When this is updated, publish the calendar item including the subitems in the publish. This is to update the previous year's URLs to include the year.

Next, update the new current catalog calendar item with the word "Current".  This is going to be updated in the Rename and the Display Name fields as well.  Publish including the subitems in the publish. This is to ensure the new catalog is now displaying URLs with "current" included in the calendar year placement.

NOTE: If you are using the above style current redirect and embedding access to the catalog from your website via API, there may be no need to provide your IT team with new paths every year.  Updating this redirect will instantly make your new current catalog accessible from your website.
