Unit Administrator Troubleshooting and Error Messages (Unit Administrator)

In order for the links to work, the configuration must be correct and the user in the LMS must have a matching account in Tk20.

User Matching Error Messages

If the user match is not found, the system will display one of the following messages.

  • If the user clicks the link and no Tk20 user match is found OR the account is not active, the system will display “User match not found. Contact your system administrator.” Contact information configured in Tk20 will also be included.
  • If the student clicks the link and does not have a Paid and Active account, the system will display a screen “According to our records, you do not have an active account with Tk20. Please click here to register your account. If you have a paid account, please contact your school administrator.” Contact information configured in Tk20 will also be included.

Configuration Error Messages

If any configuration errors occur, the system will display an error message “Invalid integration. Please contact your system administrator.” Configuration errors may include:

  • Incorrect secret key
  • Incorrect consumer key
  • Incorrect course or coursework launch URL
  • Incorrect domain
  • If a course section is deleted in Tk20 after the integration has been setup
  • If a course assignment or coursework is deleted in Tk20 after the integration has been setup

Grade Submission Errors and Messages

If all grades are submitted successfully, the system will display a message “All grades were successfully submitted to the gradebook.” A green checkmark icon will be displayed next to the grades that were successfully submitted.

If one or more grades were not submitted successfully, the system will display a message “One or more grades were not sent successfully. Please review the status in the student grade column. For troubleshooting, please contact your LMS administrator.”

If the grade is not a valid value between 0-100, the system will display an error icon next to the student grade. If you hover over the icon, a message will appear, “Grade must be between 0-100.”

If the grade was not successfully submitted for any other reason, the system will display an error icon next to the student grade. If you hover over the icon, a message will appear, “Error: Contact Administrator.”

Changing a Submitted Grade

If a grade has already been submitted, but needs to be adjusted, there are a couple of options for making the update.

  1. Change the grade first from the list of students in the assignments then click ‘Submit to Gradebook’ so the grade can be updated in the LMS Gradebook.

The Privacy tab showing cookie settings with options for Always block, Allow from current website only, Allow from websites I visit, and Always allow. Always allow option selected. Manage Website Data button appearing below.

The assignment report showing two tables with student rows and grade fields. First table showing grade 90 entered for the second student. Second table showing grade 95 entered for the second student. Submit to Gradebook button and Save button appearing below.

  2. Instructor can revoke the assignment, change the grade from within the assessment tool (rubric) but will need to manually update the grade in their LMS Gradebook.

Note: First revoking an assessment tool, adjusting the grade within the assessment tool, and submitting to gradebook will NOT update the grade even if the “Grade Submitted” message is seen.

Possible Reasons for Error: Contact Administrator

  • Coursework link may not have a column in LMS gradebook OR linked to an assignment in the LMS (varies by LMS)
  • Assignment/Coursework Link may not have points possible in the gradebook.
  • Student may not have submitted work via Tk20 Coursework Integration. It is an LTI specification that when the student clicks the link it established the connection to the location in the gradebook.
  • The student does not exist in the LMS course.
  • The student does not exist in the LMS gradebook.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will any changes be necessary for the dataload because of the LMS Integration?

During implementation of LTI you will need to identify what the information is that is passed between the LMS and Tk20 to identify users. e.g. The student clicks on the link. The LMS sends identifying information such as a PID. Tk20 recognizes it as a match and opens the Tk20 screen. If this identifying information is not presently stored in Tk20 (e.g. username or PID), then they will need to supply this information in the dataload.

Does Tk20 have plans to become a LTI consumer – receive data (grades) from Blackboard?

We are in the research phases of LTI Tool Consumer. Development work and timeline has not been established. Keep in mind that in order for the LMS to send information back to Tk20, it is part of their Blackboard development to be a tool provider.

Can I setup coursework to “Assess at any stage?”

In Tk20 there is a feature where you can set the assignment to be assessed at any stage. Instructors can assess students regardless of whether they submitted an assignment. This will also work in the Course and Coursework Integrations. However, grades cannot be submitted back to the LMS gradebook since the gradebook location is created via the student submitting work. This is part of LTI specification, not Tk20 design.

LMS Troubleshooting – Faculty Logged Out of Tk20

Learning Management System (LMS) Type: Any

Desired Action: Access and evaluate student submissions

Scenario: A faculty member logs into their LMS, clicks on the established Tk20 web link, and lands on their student submission page. Once the faculty clicks on a student’s name, they are logged out of Tk20 and brought to the Tk20 login page.

Solution: The faculty member is being logged out of Tk20 due to their internet browser. The internet browser settings must allow third party cookies. The user must adjust their internet browser settings; instructions to “allow third party cookies”  can be found for all internet browsers by Google searching “how to allow third party cookies in Firefox/Safari/Chrome etc. “.

Screenshots to recreate the scenario:

  1. A faculty member logs in their LMS, clicks on the established Tk20 web link, and lands on their student submission page:

The assignment report showing a table with columns for Student, Status, Due Date, Submit Date, Grade, and Actions. Multiple student rows appearing with Assessment Pending status and empty grade fields. Actions column showing an icon for each row.

  2. Once the faculty member clicks on a student name, they are logged out of Tk20 and brought to the Tk20 login page.

The login section showing fields for Username and Password with links for Forgot your username or password. Right side showing Helpful Resources with a tab for Additional Information and an Admissions tag. Support details appearing above.

Student Troubleshooting – Student View Has No Submit Button

Learning Management System (LMS) Type: Any

Desired Action: Student trying to submit an assignment

Scenario: A student logs into their LMS, clicks on the established Tk20 web link, and lands on the assignment submission page. However, the student only sees the assignment instructions. The “Select File” button or “Submit” buttons are not visible.

Solution:  Student should change internet browsers.

Screenshots to recreate the scenario:

  1. A student logs into their LMS, clicks on the established Tk20 web link, and lands on the assignment submission page, but the “submit” options are not available:

The assignment page showing Week 6 Written Assignment with instructions, requirements, and support details. Left navigation showing links such as Home, Assignments, and Grades.
