When a course section displays as "Online" in SS&E, it is primarily used for the following cases:
Alert Configuration
Online course sections may be included or excluded when configuring some alerts.
- For example, Attendance and First Week Attendance Automated Alerts Configuration have an "Other - Attribute" to "Include Online Course Sections" that can be set to true or false.
LMS Last Login Alert
The LMS Last Login Alert by design only checks online course sections. More information about this alert can be found LMS-Course-Last-Login-Alert.
Tag Filters
Tag filters may apply to online course sections only, eg. "Apply when a student is taking any course that is online". More information click Automated Tag Filters.
Student Profile - Last Attendance Date
When a course section is online, the last attendance date on the student profile will display the last assignment submission date imported from the LMS instead of attendance data entered in SS&E or imported from the SIS via Transcript Course Attendance data feed records.
Predict Modeling
A good mix of Online and Seated Course Sections optimizes Predict modeling.
