ABET Table 6-2 Faculty Workload Summary

The ABET Table 6-2 Faculty Workload Summary report is part of the Faculty Success ABET reporting suite, designed to help institutions prepare their ABET Self-Study Questionnaire. This article covers the two commission-specific versions of the Table 6-2 report available in Faculty Success, the Faculty Success screens and fields that populate each column, and guidance on date ranges and data entry to ensure your report reflects accurate, submission-ready information.

This article is intended for Faculty Success Administrators, Deans, and Department Heads responsible for preparing ABET accreditation materials.

About ABET Table 6-2

ABET Table 6-2 is a standardized faculty workload summary included in the Self-Study Questionnaire. Its purpose is to document the courses each faculty member taught during the reporting period and to describe how faculty time is distributed across teaching, research, and other program activities.

Faculty Success provides two Table 6-2 report outputs:

  • ABET Table 6-2 Faculty Workload Summary (EAC) for programs accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission. This version lists courses taught and FT/PT status only, with no workload distribution columns.
  • ABET Table 6-2 Faculty Workload Summary (ANSAC, CAC & ETAC) for programs accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission, the Computing Accreditation Commission, or the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. These three commissions share identical Table 6-2 requirements and are served by a single combined report. This version includes program activity distribution percentages and percent of time devoted to the program in addition to the course listing.

Recommended Report Date Range

As with Table 6-1, the ABET Self-Study Questionnaire specifies that Table 6-2 data should reflect the academic year for which the Self-Study Report is being prepared, with an updated table presented to the review team at the time of the visit. Select a date range that captures the appropriate academic year or fall term for your institution's visit cycle.

The report draws from Scheduled Teaching, Workload Information, and Yearly Data, each with its own record selection behavior, described in the sections below.

Column Criteria

The following sections describe each column in the Table 6-2 reports and identify the Faculty Success screen and criteria used to populate it. Where behavior differs between commission reports, those differences are noted.

Faculty Member

Populated automatically from the faculty member's account. Names appear in Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial format.

FT or PT

  • Screen: Yearly Data > Full-Time Equivalency
  • Records included: Most recent record within the report date range.

By default, Faculty Success determines full-time or part-time status based on the Full-Time Equivalency value. A value of 100% is treated as Full-Time; any value below 100% is treated as Part-Time. Institutions may alternatively use a dropdown field that captures FT or PT directly. The report handles either configuration.

Classes Taught

  • Screen: Scheduled Teaching
  • Records included: All records within the report date range.

Each Scheduled Teaching record within the report date range generates one row in the Classes Taught column. The report displays the Course Prefix, Course Number, Term and Year, Course Name, and Number of Credit Hours for each record. Faculty members with no Scheduled Teaching records in the date range will still appear on the report with their other data, but the Classes Taught column will be blank.

Note: Scheduled Teaching is term-based. The records included in the report depend on the date range you select. A date range covering a full academic year will include all terms within that year. To include only a specific term, narrow your date range accordingly.

Program Activity Distribution (ANSAC, CAC & ETAC Only)

The EAC report does not include Program Activity Distribution columns. The ANSAC, CAC & ETAC report includes three columns that together should total 100% of faculty effort within the program.

Workload Information — Record Selection

  • Screen: Workload Information
  • Records included: Most recent record within the report date range.

All three Program Activity Distribution columns draw from the same Workload Information record — the most recent one returned within your selected date range. Most institutions maintain one Workload Information record per academic year, in which case the most recent and only record are the same. If your institution uses term-based Workload Information records, be mindful of your date range selection to ensure the intended term's record is the most recent one returned.

Teaching

  • Screen: Workload Information
  • Field: Teaching Workload Percentage

Research or Scholarship

  • Screen: Workload Information
  • Field: Research Workload Percentage

Other

  • Screen: Workload Information
  • Fields: Service Workload Percentage + Administrative Workload Percentage

The Other column in the ABET report represents the combined total of the Service Workload Percentage and Administrative Workload Percentage values entered in Faculty Success. ABET uses this column to capture activities such as sabbatical leave and other non-teaching, non-research program contributions. Both fields should be completed for any faculty member where these activities apply.

Note: The Program Activity Distribution percentages for Teaching, Research or Scholarship, and Other should total 100% of effort within the program. Faculty Success does not validate this total automatically. Confirm that each faculty member's workload values sum to 100% before running the report.

Percent of Time Devoted to the Program (ANSAC, CAC & ETAC Only)

  • Screen: Yearly Data > Percent of Time Dedicated to the School's Mission
  • Records included: Average of all Yearly Data records within the report date range.

This column reflects the percentage of a faculty member's total institutional time that is devoted to the program. Unlike other fields that use only the most recent Yearly Data record, this value is calculated as an average across all Yearly Data records returned within the report date range. For most institutions using Academic Year-based records, this will be a single record and the average and the record value will be the same.

Commission Report Comparison Summary

The table below summarizes which columns appear in each of the two Table 6-2 report outputs.

Preparing Your Data

Before running either Table 6-2 report, confirm the following for each faculty member included in the program:

  • Scheduled Teaching records exist for the target academic year or term, with Course Prefix, Course Number, Course Name, and Number of Credit Hours completed.
  • A Yearly Data record exists for the target term with Full-Time Equivalency (or the FT/PT dropdown, if configured) completed.
  • For ABET Table 6-2 Faculty Workload Summary (ANSAC, CAC & ETAC): a Workload Information record exists for the target term with Teaching Workload Percentage, Research Workload Percentage, Service Workload Percentage, and Administrative Workload Percentage completed, and the values sum to 100%.
  • For ABET Table 6-2 Faculty Workload Summary (ANSAC, CAC & ETAC): a Yearly Data record exists for the target term with Percent of Time Dedicated to the School's Mission completed.

Yearly Data and Workload Information records can be entered directly by authorized users via Manage Data, or loaded in bulk using CSV Imports. Scheduled Teaching is typically prepared as a CSV Import or API integration. For guidance on bulk data preparation, see Creating New Scheduled Teaching Records Using CSV Data Import and CSV Imports: Updating Yearly Data
