The ABET Table 6-1 Faculty Qualifications report is part of the Faculty Success ABET reporting suite, designed to help institutions prepare their ABET Self-Study Questionnaire. This article covers the commission-specific versions of the Table 6-1 report available in Faculty Success, the Faculty Success screens and fields that populate each column, and guidance on date ranges and data entry to ensure your report reflects accurate, submission-ready information.
This article is intended for Faculty Success Administrators, Deans, and Department Heads responsible for preparing ABET accreditation materials.
About ABET Table 6-1
ABET Table 6-1 is a standardized faculty qualifications table included in the Self-Study Questionnaire that institutions submit for each degree program seeking accreditation. Its purpose is to demonstrate that the program's faculty have the education, experience, and professional engagement necessary to cover all curricular areas.
Because ABET's four accreditation commissions have different reporting requirements for Criterion 6, Faculty Success provides three separate Table 6-1 report outputs:
- ABET Table 6-1 Faculty Qualifications (EAC) for programs accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission.
- ABET Table 6-1 Faculty Qualifications (ANSAC & ETAC) for programs accredited by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission or the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. These two commissions share identical Table 6-1 requirements and are served by a single combined report.
- ABET Table 6-1 Faculty Qualifications (CAC) for programs accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission. This version includes additional columns and a narrative section not present in the other reports.
All three reports draw from the same core set of Faculty Success screens. The differences between them are limited to specific columns and, in the case of the CAC report, an additional narrative section. These differences are detailed in the sections below.
Recommended Report Date Range
The ABET Self-Study Questionnaire specifies that Table 6-1 data should reflect the fall term immediately preceding the accreditation visit, with an updated table presented to the review team at the time of the visit. When running the Table 6-1 report in Faculty Success, select a date range that captures the appropriate fall term or full academic year for your institution's visit cycle.
Most institutions use Academic Year-based Yearly Data records, which provide flexibility to run the report for either a specific fall term or a full academic year, depending on your institution's visit timeline.
Note: The date range you select when running the report determines which Yearly Data records are included. If a faculty member is missing a Yearly Data record for the target term, their Rank, Appointment Type, and Level of Activity columns will reflect the most recent available record within your selected range, or will appear blank if no record exists. Reviewing your data before generating the report is recommended.
Column Criteria
The following sections describe each column in the Table 6-1 report and identify the Faculty Success screen and criteria used to populate it. Where behavior differs between commissions, those differences are called out within each section.
Faculty Name
Populated automatically from the faculty member's account. Names appear in Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial format.
Highest Degree Earned
- Screen: Degrees
- Records included: The record where Highest Degree You Have Earned? is set to Yes.
The report displays the degree, field of emphasis or major, and year completed. If no record is marked as the highest degree, this column will appear blank for that faculty member. Each faculty member should have exactly one record with this flag set.
Rank
- Screen: Yearly Data > Faculty/Staff Rank (RANK)
- Records included: Most recent record within the report date range.
Rank values are mapped to ABET's required codes in the report output:
- P = Professor
- ASC = Associate Professor
- AST = Assistant Professor
- I = Instructor
- A = Adjunct
- O = Other
Type of Academic Appointment
- Screen: Yearly Data > Tenure Status (TENURE)
- Records included: Most recent record within the report date range.
This column uses the following codes, which differ slightly between commissions:
- TT = Tenure Track
- T = Tenured
- EAC only: OA = Other Appointment
- ANSAC & ETAC, CAC: NTT = Non Tenure Track
Note: The EAC commission uses "Other Appointment" (OA). The EAC report automatically maps Yearly Data with no value for Tenure Status to OA in the report output.
FT or PT
- Screen: Yearly Data > Full-Time Equivalency (FTE)
- Records included: Most recent record within the report date range.
Faculty Success determines full-time or part-time status based on the FTE value recorded for the faculty member.
Note: This column may be revised to reference alternative methods of capturing full time or part time information in Faculty Success.
Years of Experience
This column is split into three sub-columns across all three reports.
Government/Industry Practice
- Screen: Professional Positions
- Records included: All records where Employment Type is one of: Professional, Military, or Government.
Years are calculated from the start and end dates of matching records and summed across all qualifying positions.
Teaching
- Screen: Professional Positions
- Records included: All records where Employment Type contains Academic.
Years are calculated and summed from all qualifying academic position records.
Years at This Institution
- Screen: Permanent Data > Start Date at University
The report calculates years at the institution from the faculty member's Start Date at the University through the report end date.
Professional Registration/Certification
- Screen: Licensures and Certifications
- Records included: All records within the report date range.
All active licensure and certification records are included. This column appears in all three commission reports.
Level of Activity (ANSAC & ETAC, and CAC Only)
The EAC report does not include Level of Activity columns. The ANSAC & ETAC and CAC reports include Level of Activity ratings using H (High), M (Medium), or L (Low) values. Per ABET's guidance, each rating should reflect an average across the year prior to the accreditation visit plus the two preceding years, a three-year lookback period. Faculty Success does not calculate this average automatically. The H, M, or L value entered into each field in the Yearly Data screen used by the report is the value the report will display. Administrators or authorized users are responsible for entering values that accurately represent the appropriate three-year average before running the report.
Note: The three year average is retrieved from the Yearly Data record included in the report date range. Prior Yearly Data records do not require this information.
All Level of Activity fields are located on the Yearly Data screen under the ABET Level of Activity section, and follow the most recent record logic described in the Report Date Range and "Most Recent Record" Logic section above.
ANSAC & ETAC Level of Activity Columns
- Professional Organizations
- Professional Development
- Consulting or Summer Work in Industry
CAC Level of Activity Columns
The CAC report includes the same three Levels of Activity columns as ANSAC & ETAC, plus two additional columns:
- Professional Organizations
- Professional Development
- Consulting or Summer Work in Industry
- *Contributions to the Discipline (CAC only)
- *Other (CAC only)
The CAC commission's Criterion 6 evaluates faculty competence based on a broader set of factors, including contributions to the discipline and other indicators of currency. The Other column is intended for any additional factors from Criterion 6 that are relevant to the faculty member's role.
Competence and Currency Narrative (CAC Only)
In addition to the table, the CAC report generates a narrative section titled Competence and Currency of Faculty following the table. This section prints one paragraph per faculty member and is used to describe the factors that demonstrate each faculty member's competency and currency within the program's discipline.
- Screen: Yearly Data
- Records included: Most recent record within the report date range.
This narrative must be written directly on each faculty member's Yearly Data record. Administrators or authorized users should coordinate with faculty to ensure this content is complete and accurate before running the report.

Preparing Your Data
Before running any of the Table 6-1 reports, confirm the following for each faculty member included in the program:
- A Degrees record exists with the Highest Degree You Have Earned? marked Yes.
- A Yearly Data record exists for the target term with Rank, Tenure Status, FTE, and all applicable Level of Activity fields completed.
- Professional Positions records are present and include accurate Employment Type values and date ranges for both academic and government/industry experience.
- The Start Date at University field on the Permanent Data screen is populated.
- For ABET Table 6-1 Faculty Qualifications (CAC): the CAC Only: For each faculty member listed in Table 6-1, list which factors contribute to their competency and currency within the program’s discipline, consistent with the contributions to the program expected from the faculty. The field on the Yearly Data record contains the Competence and Currency narrative.
Yearly Data records can be entered directly by authorized users via Manage Data or loaded in bulk using CSV Imports. For guidance on bulk data preparation, see CSV Imports: Updating Yearly Data to support the ABET Reporting Suite.
