Adding a Static LTI 1.3 Link in Blackboard

This article explains the steps to add a static LTI 1.3 Blackboard link to your existing Blackboard integration.  If you wish to upgrade your integration to LTI 1.3 then you should follow the directions in the Blackboard Data and User Integration with LTI 1.3 (Blackboard Ultra) article.

 

Acquiring an Application ID for LTI 1.3

Contact our Support Team by clicking Submit A Request to ask for an LTI 1.3 Application ID to be created on you behalf.  Once you receive your Application ID, follow the steps below.

 

NOTE: The Application ID for the LTI 1.3 setup is separate and different from the Application ID that you use for your Data Integration.  Do not use the same Application ID that you are using for your Data Integration for the LTI 1.3 setup.

 

Register LTI 1.3 Tool and Manage Placements in Blackboard

  1. Login to your Blackboard instance as a User with admin permissions

  2. Navigate to Admin > LTI Tool Providers

  3. Click Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool link

  4. Enter the Application ID into the Client ID field and click Submit button

  5. Blackboard will fill in all the necessary fields automatically. Review and click Submit button

  6. Find the newly created Tool Provider from the list of LTI Tool Providers. The Tool Provider name should be the same name as your CES instance.

  7. Click the arrow next to the Tool Provider name and choose Manage Placements

  8. Click Create Placement link and follow normal Blackboard process for adding your placement. In the TOOL PROVIDER INFORMATION section:

    1. Copy the value from the Launch URL field in CE&S LTI 1.3 Settings page and paste it into the Target Link URL field
    2. Leave the Tool Provider Custom Parameters field blank

 

Configure LTI 1.3 Settings in CES

  1. Log into CES as the CES Administrator

  2. Navigate to Account > LTI 1.3

  3. Issuer: Enter the following value in the Issuer field https://blackboard.com/

  4. Client ID: Enter the Application ID, the same one entered for Client ID in the above steps

  5. Deployment ID: Enter the Deployment ID from Blackboard

  6. Public Keyset URL: Enter the value from the JWKS URL field in Blackboard

  7. Authentication Request URL: Enter the value from the Tool Redirect URLs field in Blackboard

  8. Target Link URL: Autofilled

  9. Public JWK URL: Autofilled

  10. Launch URL: Autofilled

  11. Click Save

Remove Existing Settings

  1. CES Administrators will see a “Delete Settings” button in the lower portion of the LTI 1.3 settings screen once settings have been added and saved.

  2. To remove the existing settings, the CES Administrator can click the “Delete Settings” button and then click OK in the confirmation box.
