Log Categories

Log categories are used by interns when adding time to their time log. The categories allow an intern to document tasks and events, or enter hours under a specific category, which can then be used by administrators in reporting. Category Types can also be created to organize categories.

To create a Category Type:

  1. From Academics & Offices, click on the program/organization that you would like to add a Category Type to.
  2. Click Log Categories.

If a log category that has already been added to a course is archived, it will continue to be displayed under the Log Categories tab for that course with one of the following status based on whether or not they have already been used to create time logs by students for that course:

  • Archived (In Use): archived log categories that have been used to create time logs in sections from the course.

  • Archived (Not Used): archived log categories that have not yet been used to create time logs in sections from the course.

Manage Time Log Categories:

  1. Time log categories can be Archived, Deleted, or Edited by clicking the “Options” button [three dots] to the right of the Category.

  2. Archive: available for any time log category regardless of status. Archived log categories are not available to students when they create a new time log and are no longer able to be added to the list of Log Categories for new courses. Time Logs already submitted with an archived log category are still reflected in hour totals and available in reports and exports. Archived categories can be made active again through Options > Unarchive.

  3. Delete: available for unused categories. This permanently removes the category.

  4. Edit: available for all categories and allows admins to change the name, type, and time entry format.
