Instructor Custom Questions
Hi everyone!
I'd be curious to know how other institutions are using and promoting instructor custom questions on their end-term course surveys. We have allowed instructor custom questions since we launched CES in Winter 2021 (and with our previous system back to Fall 2015) and while there is general awareness about instructor custom questions, adoption has remained pretty low (10% or less) across our instructors per term. Customization is open to instructors for 5 weeks up until the surveys open to students and we send email notifications from CES when customization opens and again 2 weeks for before it closes. We also get announcements in a couple of newsletters through other groups on campus that communicate to faculty, but I don't get a sense that those drive instructors to customize.
I'd be interested to hear how others use and promote instructor custom questions, what kind of adoption rate you have, and any communication strategies you use to drive adoption/use of custom questions by your instructors.
I'm also going to be at Engage this year and would be happy to connect and talk about this or any other aspects of how we're using CES and sharing any tips, tricks, and/or strategies around evals!
