Group Discussion Board

Create a Group Discussion Board

  1. Click the Community tab located in the top center of the screen.
  2. Click the Groups Discussions tab.
  3. Click the New Board button.
  4. Enter a title in the Board Name text box.
  5. Enter additional information in the Description text box.
  6. Select a Group from the Participants Invite from dropdown menu. (Go to the Create a Group page to see how to create a group.)
  7. Enter a topic in the Topic Name text box. Additional topics may be added after creating the board.
  8. Click the Create Board button.
  9. The new board will open. Additional topics and discussions can be posted.

Users associated with the group that was selected during the board creation will receive a "You have been invited by <FirstName> <LastName> to join <BoardName> board." Users can click Accept Invitation or Decline.

Note:
Users are not able to Create a Board without selecting a group and creating a topic. Click the create a group link located to the right of the dropdown menu if the group has not been pre-established. The system will navigate to the Groups tab, and the new board will not be saved.

 

Create a Topic on Group Discussion Board

After a board has been created, the creator of the board can create additional topics. Users invited to participate can create and reply to discussions within the topic, but can not create new topics.
 

  1. Click the Community tab located in the top center of the screen.
  2. Click the Group Discussions tab.
  3. Click the title of the Board Name.
  4. Click the New Topic... button.
  5. A text box will appear to the right of the New Topic... button. Enter text into the Topic Name text box.
  6. Click the Create button.
  7. The new topic will be displayed and new discussions may be posted.


Post a Discussion on Group Discussion Board

After a board and topic has been created, all invited users of the board can post and reply to discussions.
 

  1. Click the Community tab located in the top center of the screen.
  2. Click the Group Discussions tab.
  3. Click the title of the Board Name.
  4. Click the All Topics button, and select the topic where the discussion should be posted.
  5. Click the Start new discussion button.
  6. Enter a Subject in the first text box.
  7. Enter a message in the second text box.
  8. Click the Post button.
  9. The new discussion will be posted. Invited users will be able to view and reply to this discussion.


Note:
A topic must be created by the board creator before discussions can be posted by invited users.
 


Reply to a Discussion on Group Discussion Board

After a board, topic, and discussion has been created, all invited users of the board can reply to the discussions.
 

  1. Click the Community tab located in the top center of the screen.
  2. Click the Group Discussions tab.
  3. Click the title of the Board Name.
  4. Click the All Topics button, and select the topic where the discussion is located.
  5. Click the title of the Discussion to be replied to.
  6. Click the Reply link.
  7. Enter a Subject in the first text box.
  8. Enter a message in the second text box.
  9. Click the Post button.
  10. The reply will be posted below the original message. Users associated with the course will be able to view and reply to this message.
