Enterprise Screens

Faculty Success comes with a set of activity screens to help you get started in inputting your faculty's activities into Faculty Success. This article outlines the activity screens you are provided for out of the box by different categories and screen types along with a downloadable Configuration Report at the end of the article. General Information 

Personal and Contact Information 

  • Screen type: Static
  • Serves to capture fundamental user contact and demographic information. The name and email fields are designed to automatically populate with values entered in the Users & Security tool when a user's account is first created, ensuring consistency and accuracy of of the user's email and name information across the system.

Biography and Expertise

  • Screen type: Static
  • Consolidates faculty members' professional interests and competencies, serving as a repository for key information that can be utilized to create web profiles, offering transparency and facilitating collaboration.
    Administrative Data 

Permanent Data

  • Screen type: Static
  • Provides a snapshot of faculty members' tenure timeline and essential HR details such as the start date of their professional positions. It's important to note that while this screen is tailored to capture a faculty members professional timeline, faculty members' should record their employment history in the "Work History" screen which would help ensure accurate representation of current appointments on CVs generated from Faculty Success. 

Yearly Data 

  • Screen type: Static
  • Serves as a central hub for storing unit appointments, such as those within colleges and departments, typically on an annual basis. This screen also plays a crucial role in housing AACSB accreditation data for AACSB reporting. Additional data owner paths could also be added to this screen, such as Faculty Rank, to enhance user indexing. 

Administrative Assignments 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Captures administrative leadership positions. These positions usually involve compensation or payment in some way, unlike other service roles such as being a committee member. 

Awards and Honors 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Keeps track of recognitions such as awards, honors or nominations received by faculty members. This screen permits for the ability to note any monetary value associated with the recognitions, as well as provide details about the recognitions themselves, showcasing the recognition received for the faculty members' work. 

Consulting

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Stores faculty members' consulting work, whether compensated or done voluntarily. Consulting work demonstrates the faculty members expertise and is considered noteworthy within this screen. 

Consulting

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Degrees earned by faculty member. 

Graduate/Post-Graduate Training 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Stores specialized training, certifications and ongoing education efforts that go beyond academic degrees and showcases faculty members' commitment to continuous learning and professional development. 

Faculty Development Activities Attended 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Faculty development activities, such as workshops or seminars, are recorded within this screen. It's important to note that if a faculty member teaches for such activities, these taught activities should be recorded in the "Non-Credit Instruction Taught" or relevant service screens. 

Licensures and Certifications 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Records licenses and certifications earned by faculty members to track their professional qualifications that were obtained throughout their careers. The information in this screen will help ensure compliance with regulations and aids in faculty-related decisions like promotions.

Media Appearances and Interviews 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Records instances of faculty members highlighting their professional recognition and prestige in media, such as newspapers, magazines, TV, podcasts, or online platforms. 

Professional Memberships 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Stored log of faculty members' memberships in professional organizations, underscoring their commitment to staying connected and engaged in their field. 

References

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Documents contact details for references provided by faculty members. These references will be able to vouch for the faculty members' professional qualifications, thereby verifying their suitability for their role and promotions. 

Work History 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Captures faculty members' compensated professional roles, spanning non-profit organizations, the private sector, military positions, K-12 education and all other faculty appointments, offering a comprehensive view of their experiences. 

Workload Information 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Captures annual workflow distribution. 

Teaching/Mentoring

Academic Advising 

  • Screen type: Dynamic 
  • This screen simplifies student advising data by compiling the total number of students advised by faculty members, rather than tracking individual interactions, offering a comprehensive overview of faculty members advising workflow without the need for granular details. 

Directed Student Learning (e.g., theses, dissertations)

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Captures interactions involving specific students and deliverable-oriented tasks, such as supervising a student's dissertation or directing a student's independent study. 

Mentoring

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen records activities related to mentoring interactions with individuals such as students, fellows, and junior faculty. It focuses on capturing the mentoring relationship, which may not result in specific deliverable or clear outcome, but still involves significant time and effort. For instance, mentoring junior faculty might not lead to a publication or grant, but it is still valuable to document. 

Non-Credit Instruction Taught 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures faculty teaching activities that are not for credit and not needed to be tracked by the registrar's office. These activities can be internal or external to the institution and may or may not be academically focused. 

    Note: There might be some overlap with service activities and presentations. It's up to the faculty member to determine whether an activity counts as a presentation, public service, or non-credit teaching.  

Scheduled Teaching 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures regular for-credit faculty teaching activities associated with the institution and tracked by the registrar's office.  

Teaching Innovation and Curriculum Development 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Captures teaching innovations at both the course and degree program levels. Examples include pedagogical revisions to existing courses, the design of new courses, and the creation of new programs. 

Scholarship/Research 

Contracts, Fellowships, Grants and Sponsored Research 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures monetary awards that fund research. 

Exhibits and Performances 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen is for faculty members in the fine arts who create art, product works and stage performances. In some cases, it is split into separate screens for creative works and performances/exhibits. 

Intellectual Property (e.g., copyrights, patents) 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen tracks intellectual property as an important component or outgrowth of a faculty member's scholarship, such  as in engineering or data science. 

Presentations 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • Captures formal presentations of academic work at conferences or other venues. 

Publications 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures published or soon to be published research, including journal articles, books and book chapters. Sometimes called "Intellectual Contributions" in business or management disciplines. 

Research Activitiy 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures pre-deliverable research activity, such as fieldwork and library research, that leads to publications, presentations, performances, grants and patents. 

Service

University 

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures faculty activities that benefit university processes, students, or stakeholders. This service is typically expected of all faculty and is not remunerated, unlike administrative assignments, which are compensated and tracked separately. 

Professional

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures faculty service to their profession, such as serving as Vice President of a professional association or on a journal's editorial board. This type of service is crucial, especially at research heavy institution.

Public

  • Screen type: Dynamic
  • This screen captures service that is not to the institution or profession, such as volunteering, public education initiatives and non-profit involvement. Public Service is diverse and varies widely based on community and university location.
