Canvas- Required Permissions for Canvas Role

When setting up the Advanced Canvas integration, the institution will need a Canvas Administrator account that has been allocated the permissions laid out below. By providing these permissions, we ensure that Planning & Self Study can access all necessary data required for integration.

  1. Account-level settings - manage
    • Planning & Self Study needs account-level permissions in Canvas to access terms, rubrics, and sub-account data.

    • These permissions enable us to fetch terms, rubrics, and pull data from sub-accounts. Without this access, key data for assessments and enrollments cannot be synced, affecting integration.

  2. Course Content - view
    • Purpose: Enables users to view content in courses, which includes objects such as files, assignments, and quizzes.
  3. Courses - view list
    • Purpose: Allows access to view the list of courses within an account.

  4. Discussions - view
    • Purpose: Grants the ability to view discussions within courses.

  5. Grades - view all grades
    • Purpose: Enables viewing of grades for all students in the courses. Essential for retrieving submission data.

  6. Manage Assignments and Quizzes
    • Purpose: Allows P&SS to access assignments and quizzes data from canvas.

  7. Rubrics - add / edit / delete
    • Purpose: Allows P&SS to access rubrics data from Canvas.

  8. SIS Data - read
    • Purpose: Access to read data synchronized with the institution's SIS (Student Information System), useful for fetching user enrollment and course mapping data.

  9. Users - view list
    • Purpose: Allows viewing a list of users within the account, which is crucial for retrieving information about users enrolled in courses.

  10. Users - view login IDs
    • Purpose: Grants access to view user login IDs, which is essential for identifying users uniquely.

  11. Users - view primary email address
    • Purpose: Provides the ability to view users' primary email addresses, which is necessary for user mapping and communication with external systems.
