Importing Instructors and Students into Course Sections

Note: People must exist in System Administration before they can be enrolled into Course Sections. Thus, it is vital to first ensure that all required users exist in the platform before attempting to enroll them via import.

  1. Navigate to the Courses & Sections tab in System Administration
  2. Select Sections, and search for the required Course Section
  3. Select the Section Number

The table showing one row with Accounting 101, course code ACC 101, section number 1ASP25 highlighted, section ID ACC 101 1ASP25, term Spring 2025, no instructors listed, and zero students enrolled.

  4. Select Import Enrollments
  5. If needed, the Enrollments template is available in the pop-up that appears

The Import Enrollments popup showing a link to download the enrollment template and two buttons, Cancel and Browse to Select File.

  6. For information on formatting the template, please see resource linked CSV Import Guidelines
  7. When the template is prepared, select Browse to Select File in the pop-up
  8. Once the file is selected, the file name will appear in the pop-up. Select Import.

The CSV upload popup showing the selected file course_section_enrollment.csv with a change file link, and Cancel and Import buttons at the bottom.

  9. A notification that the import is processing will appear. Hit Close.

Removing Enrollments in Bulk via Import

Best practice for enrollments is to upload or refresh enrollments after the Add/Drop period at your institution to ensure your system has the most accurate enrollment data.

  1. In the enrollments.csv, to drop an enrollment mark both Instructor and Student fields as FALSE for that particular row(s).
  2. In the example screenshot below if the csv file is imported it will drop the enrollments of the users in the first two rows.

The table showing section_id, email, instructor, and student columns with multiple rows listing section identifiers, user emails, and TRUE or FALSE values indicating instructor or student roles.

  3. Note - If a row is marked FALSE, FALSE, but the person has not yet been enrolled in a course section, then it would act as a no operation for that row.
